Expo Hightex 2009 took place on 7 and 8 October in Montréal. Encouraging technological and commercial partnership, this landmark event for the Canadian textile industry attracted hundreds of business, research and public sector leaders to conferences and networking opportunities involving industries such as aerospace, health, protective equipment and construction
Canada’s textile industry is growing stronger and more dynamic every year and it’s thanks to the dedication of its network of specialist technology and market experts. CTT Group recognizes these experts on the behalf of the industry at Expo Hightex, through the awarding of three prizes: “Personality of the Year”, “Career”, and “Young Entrepreneur”.
The Personality of the Year Award was earned by Sirio de Luca, President and CEO of Consoltex (Saint-Laurent, QC). Mr De Luca has more than 20 years of strategic, operational and general management experience with leading North American-based global textile corporations and has been leader and beacon throughout the recent changes in the textile industry.
A lifetime of contribution and industry expertise was also recognised through the awarding of the Career Award to Dr. André Rollin ing., Feic, Fcsme. Dr Rollin lead cutting-edge geosynthetic research at the École Polytechnique until 1997, and is currently a consultant for engineering firm Solmers-Genivar (Varennes, QC). Dr Rollin has published more than 165 articles and inspired countless researchers.
The textile industry also recognizes those individuals who will carry our industry’s development in the future, and in 2009 Alex Alexis of Texel (Division of ADS inc., Saint-Elzéar-de-Beauce, QC) was awarded Entrepreneur of the Future for his exceptional achievements.
Further information and detailed statistics outlining the successes of Expo Hightex 2009 and the Canadian textile industry are available at www.expohightex.com . Expo Hightex 2010 will take place next year in Montréal.
